HSB Geophysical has made the decision to offer the Thin Bed Modeler and the Blocked Log Modeler without any licensing fees or charges. Both models are now available as license-free versions on our Downloads page. These fully functional software versions can be accessed by anyone at no cost—free from advertisements, expiring licenses, and data sales—simply available for download.
Dr. Fred Hilterman has spearheaded the development of these tools over the last 25 years and continues to utilize them extensively in educational and training programs. The HSB team believes that the greatest benefit to our community is to make these resources available to as many users as possible, thereby broadening the application of the AVO knowledge embedded within these products.
The software is compatible with Windows and can be installed on any computer of your choice. We encourage you to share this information with colleagues and fellow students to spread the word.
The Thin Bed Modeler allows for the rapid generation of AVO models for a single layer under wet, oil, and gas-saturated conditions—simultaneously. It also provides wedge models and cross plots of various seismic attributes, making it an exceptional tool for quickly grasping a localized modeling environment.
The Blocked Log Modeler enables users to define multiple layers of a well log as needed and interactively adjust thickness, P-wave, and density values for in-situ conditions. This functionality allows users to observe how AVO models change for both in-situ and fluid substitution conditions, making it an invaluable tool when a comprehensive LAS file is not required, yet more complexity than single-layer modeling is desired.
The Thin Bed Modeler is accompanied by a complete set of user documentation, while the documentation and user scenarios for the Blocked Log Modeler will be developed over time. Both software interfaces are designed to be intuitive and user-friendly, aligning with the standards of all TIPS software products.
