TIPS version 3.4 is now officially released. The first thing you may notice is the change back to plain old “TIPS” instead of “jTIPS”. We are focused on our core “Toolkit for Integrating Petrophysics and Seismic” and have gone back to the root name for consistency and simplicity.

Our last major release was focused on integrating in seismic data with TIPS and allowing for simple well ties. We have not only greatly improved this aspect, but also add a few other features to make the usage and operation a little easier. The release notes are below and included in the help documentation. If reading is not your thing, we’ve tried to summarize the main new features in the short video below.

  • Improve Seismic Prep
    • To create 1D synthetics, you only need P-Wave and Density curves defined (as it should have been).
    • For AVO models, you need a S-Wave as well and most likely a Shale Volume curve if you have hydrocarbons and wish to do Fluid Substitution.
  •  Licensing
    • All licensing handled via FlexLM.
    • All legacy licensing schemes no longer valid.
    • To update your license, please send request to ssmith@hsbgeophysical.com
  • Export LAS Data to file using TVD
    • LAS files that have deviation data (MD and TVD) can be exported so that the depth is in TVD and the parameters are interpolated to correspond to the depth increments in TVD and not MD
  • Compute Regression Coefficients
    • For a given curve, you can compute your own regression coefficients as a function of any other curve parameter for use in filling in edited regions.
  • Log Prep Summary
    • Create a summary report to indicate all action taken on the LAS data to create your model-ready file.
  • Formation Tops
    • From any of the synthetic and seismic menus, you can output the formation tops to a simple file that includes their names, measured depths and 2-way travel time.
    • Formation Tops shown on the time scale of all synthetics
  • Wavelets
    • Export any wavelet to SEG-Y and ASCII format
  • Export LAS files from Synthetic Menus
  • AVO Stack Range
    • Specify a range of AVO stack instead of just using 0 as the minimum value.
  • Seismic
    • Ability to specify Trace Headers to Display Seismic Display Settings
    • Ability to view AVO stack traces alongside seismic data in addition to 1D synthetics
    • Cross Correlation and RMS data comparisons
